Vice President - EngineeringGeorge received his Bachelor of Science
degree in Fire Protection Engineering
from the University of Maryland in
December 1987 and joined Verlan shortly after graduation. On July 24,
2000, George was promoted to the position of Director of
Engineering for Verlan Fire Insurance Company. George serves as a Principal member of the Technical Committees on NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids and NFPA 30B, Manufacture and Storage of Aerosol Products and is an alternate for NFPA 35, Standard for the Manufacture of Organic Coatings. He is an associate member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and a member of the National Fire Protection Association. George is a registered Professional Engineer in Delaware. William J.
Josler, P.E.
Senior Fire

Bill received his Bachelor of Science
Degree in Fire Protection Engineering
from the University of Maryland in May
1997 and joined Verlan shortly after graduation. On July 24,
2000, Bill was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of
Engineering for Verlan Fire Insurance Company. Bill graduated under the
University of Maryland's
Cooperative Education Program, working one year in fire alarm design
with Mona
Electric's Life Safety Division and a year and a half with the
National Institute of Standards and Technology's large Fire Research
Group where he participated in experiments demonstrating the
effectiveness of foam as a fire fighting agent. Before attending
college, Bill worked as an electrician for six years and received his
Master
Electrician's License in 1992. Bill serves as a Principal member of the
Technical Committee on NFPA 35, Standard for the Manufacture of
Organic Coatings and is an alternate for NFPA 30, Flammable and
Combustible Liquids. He is also a National Paint and Coatings
Assocation (NPCA) Occupational Safety and Health Technical Committee
Member. Additionally, Bill is an affiliate member of the
Society of
Fire Protection Engineers and a member of the
National Fire Protection Association.
He has passed the Engineering in Training exam and is a registered
Professional Engineer in Delaware. Jason R.
Clayton
Fire
Protection Engineer
Jason received his Bachelor of Science
Degree in Fire Protection Engineering
from the University of Maryland in May
2000. While in school Jason interned here at Verlan Fire Insurance
Company as an AutoCAD Technician. Jason is an associate member of the
Society of
Fire Protection Engineers and has passed the Engineer in Training
exam. Dennis L. DohertySenior Mechanical
Engineer
Dennis received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst 1985. Good hands on experience combined with formal education have provided the tools to offer a wide range of technical services. A technical background that spans 25 years covering maintenance, facilities engineering, manufacturing engineering and fire protection. Served on numerous NFPA Technical Committees including Foam Water standards (NFPA 11, 11A & 16), Wetting Agents (NFPA 18), Installation of Oil Burning Equipment (NFPA 31) and Special Atmosphere Ovens and Furnace (NFPA 86C). Work experience includes 15 years with Major HPR insurance association with responsibilities ranging from field loss prevention activities to regional staff engineering positions including the evaluation of complex or unusual hazards. One year of experience at a fire protection consulting firm as a Senior Engineer specializing in the design of sprinkler systems. Member of National Fire Protection Association, Society of Fire Protection Engineers and Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Jeffrey C. KoehnMechanical EngineerJeff received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland in May 1995. Jeff’s previous work experience included facilities management and mechanical design of equipment used in the petrochemical industry. Jeff is an associate member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, a member of the National Fire Protection Association and has passed the Engineer in Training exam.
